We had fun playing in the park on Thursday. We have greatly missed our playground during the building.

A special thanks to all you wonderful families who sent along so much party food for our Christmas party. We had fairy bread, fancy little cakes, buscuits, chips, chocolate crackels, party pies and sausage rolls, to name but a few! Yum! Yum!

We ate as much as we could, and then decided to pack away what was left for a second party on Friday! We certainly know how to party in Prep!

Assembly Performance

In Prep we have been studying the life cycles of the mini-beasts of our back yards. Therefore when it came to our turn to do an item for assembly we chose to sing songs and recite poems all about mini-beasts.

Special thanks to Mrs Salathiel for coming in from her holiday to play the piano and help us getting this item together.

Recalling Our Emerald Bank Trip.

Here we are displaying some of our fantastic writing skills. Listen to us reading our writing about Emerald Bank.

Maths in the Sandpit

We have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the warmer and drier weather to get stuck into the sandpit to experiment with capacity. We had a real ball learning to estimate and measure how many lots of sand we would have to pour from one container into the next.

Katie and Bekky looked on as we got very involved with our measuring and counting.
Sue, Miss Coats and Mrs Krake, (when she wasn't snapping away at us), all had to keep checking that we filled our containers properly, - right up to the top and smoothed down. Some of us kept getting a bit excited and only half filled our containers which gave us some very odd results!

Emeral Bank Heritage Farm

Come and experience our fantastic day at Emerald Bank Heritage Farm in Shepparton. It was a hot and steamy day, but the cloud cover and slight breeze made sure that we didn't noticed it too much.

Frank took us on a hay ride with the tractor and trailer. We saw kangaroos and an old farm house. The grass was very long and green, and the mozzies were hungry!

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Here is Jeremiah holding some fluffy seeds that were floating down from the trees. There were so many seeds on the ground that it looked like it was covered in soft fur from the alpacas.

Here we are looking at the most enormous bull that we have ever seen!

These goats were moulting and Ashton was quite fascinated with their wool that he found blowing into the path.

Connor learned the hard way not to pat a piglet on the snout. Luckily it didn't do too much damage, and Connor won't do that again, for a while at least!

We had fun looking around, and of course we found our way to the toilets very quickly.

Only a couple of us have ever been on a real horse before, so having a chance to ride Thomas was such a thrill to us all. Thanks to Diane and Thomas for making a great day just perfect with this special ending to our day.

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

We got the best laughs of the day when Miss Coats and Mrs Rizzo had their turns on the Merry-go-round.

Tom is quite a fan of model railways and he has told us a lot about them. It was so exciting to be able to finally have a ride on a model train to see what Tom was always so enthusiastic about. Now we know, because we all had a such fun, especially when we went through the tunnel!

Now, come and have a listen to some of the things that we had to say about our day at Emerald Bank once we got back to school.

Thanks to Diane and Frank of Emerald Bank for making our trip such a great success. Also special thanks to Noah's Mum Veronica, and Lachlan's Mum Paula for being those very important extra set of eyes and pair of hands.

Weights and Balances

What a surprise we had on Friday morning. The Prep rooms were all set up with balances at each table and a huge variety of things for us to try to weigh and balance. It was all so exciting and we couldn't wait to get going. Once everything was in action we all had a real ball. We learned new words such as balance, even, same could mean the same thing. We discovered how heavy things go down and lighter things go up, and what to do to try and balance the scales. Maths is certainly a lot of fun.

Wangaratta West Cup

The Monday before the world famous Melbourne Cup Day, we had our own increasingly world renowned Wangaratta West Cup Day. This is a very festive day and many children came in colourful casual clothes to celebrate the event.

We start with the construction of our horses, which of course was fun to do, but not a patch on the excitement of racing them on the oval!

Using our clever little fingers and increasing skills we made our own hats for the Fashions on the Field event.

We felt quite proud of our efforts, but the teacher's parade of their 'glad rags' gave us all the biggest laugh.

Mrs Sibley looked particularly stunning in this very striking little number.

Fortunately Miss Coats and Mrs Rizzo were there as the fashion police to keep things in check.

Adam

Adam come to Wangaratta for our Jazz Festival, and he called into Wangaratta West to teach and entertain us today.
Adam is an amazing musician and he to showed us all how you can put together a series of notes, loop and layer them together to make some pretty fantastic music.

We were all having a rocking good time with Adam, and we think that he is just wonderful.

Our short videos could not do justice to Adam's performances but do tune into them and listen to some of what we saw and heard Adam doing for us today.

We got to make requests for some of our favourite tracks and Adam showed us how he could put it together. Listen to this one of Star Wars.

Our Prep boys were keen to have the theme from Transformers.

All of the Preps were very into Adam's creation of Sesame Street.

Thanks Adam, we had a real ball today and do hope to see you performing at the Jazz Festival.

As you see we created our own little jazz men too. We think that they look really cool!

Our Amazing Writing About Our Swimming Lessons.

Imogen wrote and illustrated this great little story about our trip to the pool for the highlight of our week at the moment, swimming lessons at Moore's Swimming Pool.

Tom's Aunty didn't make it that day, but his Mum got to see how clever he is in the pool the next week.

Jessie wrote about the sheep in the neighbouring paddock who looked through the window to watch our Preps swimming.

Ashley shows no sign of her early nervousness now!

Jeremiah remembers the big wobble and bounce we felt on the bus as we went over the railway tracks.

Noah is enjoying his swimming lessons too.

James wrote about the bubble blowing which really echoes around the pool when all our Preps get blowing.

Hayley writes about the wonderful parent helpers we have who come to help our Preps get dressed again after their lessons. Hayley's Mum is one of these great people.

Lachlan remembers the very warm feeling of the indoor pool.

The bus ride is just as exciting as the swimming lessons as Abbey will tell you.

Cassi really enjoys her swimming lessons in her own special quiet way.

As Connor says there certaily is a lot of splashing and laughing at the pool when our Preps get going.

Busy as little bees

We just have to share with you some of the highlights from our year so far. Only 8 weeks to go, and what busy weeks they will be! Keep tuned in so that we can continue share with you some of what keeps us all so busy every day!

SHOW WEEK IN WANGARATTA

One of the most exciting things at the show is the fireworks on Friday night. We had such fun with the glitter making pictures of our own fireworks.
We had to be very co-operative with each other sharing the textas and taking turns to create our huge picture of the show.
Look at the results! Our showgrounds are looking great.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE

Katie is our fantastic volunteer and very good friend. She comes in day after day to give a helping hand and words of encouragement to all of us in Prep. We could not let her birthday go bye without giving her a few small gifts to say an enormous thank you for everything she does for us all.

We hope that you had a very happy birthday Katie followed by a really great year.

CONFIDENT LITTLE SWIMMERS

We were off to Moore's Swimming Pool again today and we had a wonderful time.
Ebony, Lachlan, Anika and Jett were learning to kick with straight legs.
James and Jessie were learning to float on their backs. Look at what a great job they are doing.

We are doing really well with our swimming lessons. Mrs Krake and Miss Coats were so impressed by the things that we can do and the confidence we have in ourselves as swimmers

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Only half the group swims at a time to make sure that we have as many turns and as much help from our amazing swimming teachers as we can get. We are very good as we wait choosing to watch the others, draw or play with building blocks.

Wangaratta Show

Lots of colour and so many different skills on display from all the children at Wangaratta West Primary School.

Wangaratta West Primary School has a huge display of artwork from the whole school at the Wangaratta Show. We are so lucky to have such a clever art teacher in Mrs Rizzo and she needs to be congratulated for helping our school to create such an amazing display.

We had our tissue paper cats right up there in the middle of the school's display, and they really looked fantastic! Our paper bag scarecrows looked very jolly too.

Swimming Lessons

What excitement we had today as we all went off for our first swimming lessons.

We caught the bus which drove us to the pool. We were so excited and couldn't wait to get into the pool and show our skills.

Hayley's Mum did a fantastic job of capturing some great memories of our first swimming lessons in Prep today.
Ashton was taking his swimming lessons very seriously.
Cassie is looking very confident here in the pool.

Traffic School

The weather was perfect for our afternoon out at traffic school
We had a real ball riding along the very real roads at traffic school. The children's crossing and traffic lights were fun but the railway crossing with bells and lights was the biggest hit.

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

As you can see we all had a wonderful time riding our bikes along the roads at Traffic School.

The round-about posed the biggest problem for us at first, but we soon mastered this along with sticking to the left hand side of the road.

Wangaratta West's Fashion Show

What a big night we had on Friday. Wangaratta West had a fashion show as a fund raiser. It was an amazing success and great fun was had by all. Of course, not being at all biased, the highlight of the evening was decidedly the Prep Team. Tom, Hayley, Ryan and Ashlee did all of us proud with their courage and skill on the cat walk. Mrs Rizzo and Miss Coats were also amazing on the night. Of course Mrs Krake would also loved to have had the opportunity to strut her stuff up and down the cat walk, but someone had to stay out of the lime light to hold the camera!

Do listen to this fantastic interview our latest stars gave right after their fantastic performance!

Good luck on your new careers Mrs Rizzo and Miss Coats, our loss will be New York's gain!

Mr Campbell was pretty cool too. We wonder if he got the call to fly to New York as well?

Now that's really interesting!

We have been trying to make the questions we ask of our speakers a little more interesting. We have found that these really interesting topics inspired more interesting questions.

Great job everyone, we really loved listening to what you had to say.

Public Speaking - never as easy as it looks!

Talking to a group is never easy, but our Preps all have a go at it and we are getting better and better every time.

Have a listen to the great variety of topics that they choose to talk about.

Rings and Bars with Terry

Wow! Take a look at us now as we flip on the rings and show our strength on the bars. Terry has taught us all so much. We are fitter and have new skills and it has all been incredible fun learning it all!

Only one more week left of gymnastics. We will be very sorry to say goodbye to Terry, and so we really look forward to meeting up with him again next year to learn so much more.

Fun on the Farm

We have been having very busy little fingers making a whole variety of different animals for our farm. Here is a turkey which we made out of a pom pom. Now that did take a long time to make, and we are very proud of the results.

These jolly ducks were fun to make with tissue paper and lots of glue.
Our pigs have a 3D effect as their heads stick out. They were a bit tricky to do.

The puppets were just the best. We had great fun making them and had a wonderful time playing with them afterwards.

Look Who Came To Visit!

Later this year Grade 2A will go to the Melbourne Zoo, and so they decided to create a huge zoo scene of Beanie Kids. It was so fantastic that they took photos of it and entered it into a Beanie Kids competition. They WON! They were presented with $1000, and better still a huge box of Beanie Kids. What was outstanding was the arrival of an enormous Beanie Kid at assembly to present the prizes.

Well-done Mrs Arnold and all the children of Grade 2A.

Getting Closer

Each day brings new exciting events in the building process of our new school. We can really see things on the move now.

Here they are laying the slab to another pod of classrooms attached to the corner of the library.

If we are very lucky and all keeps going well we may be in our new school at the start of next year!

We Have Lots To Tell You.

Jeremiah had a poster along with a special 'collector's car' in his "Talking Bag". Jeremiah's enthusiasm and excitement about what he had to say was infectious and we were all very interested in what he had to tell us.

Anthony brought in his motorbike helmet and photos. He told us all about the fun his had on his motorbike.

Hayley really struck a cord with her book of Kinder Memories. She spoke so well that we felt we had been right there with her on her first climb up a tree as well as other Kinder highlights.

Noah told us all about his love of Transformers, which is something many of our boys related to. He was just flooded with questions as this was no toy he was talking about!
