Education week and Grandparents' Day

For Education Week we invited Grandparents, Parents and Special Friends to come and visit our classroom.

It was a very busy time. Mrs Krake, Miss Coats and Mrs Rizzo were so proud of us as we were all on our very best behaviour.

We had the very best time showing our families how we play the games which help us to learn to read and count.

It was so nice to be able to show everybody the things we can do and the things we have made. We are so proud of how much we have grown in this first half of the year.

Just look at the way we work together. We take turns, follow the rules of the game and have fun!

One of our most popular games is Velcro Wall. We learn to read our high frequency words playing this game. Do ask us about this game when we get home.

Play dough is always a firm favourite.

We enjoy the couning game "Save the Teddies."

Prep Stories About Our Grandparents

We were all so proud of our stories, and Mrs Krake just couldn't wait to video them so that we could share our success with everyone. She has now put them up all along the passageway for everyone to see.

Jeremiah's very special Pop is a wizz at fixing bikes.

What a beautiful picture Anika has created for her lovely story.

Caleb's Nan found the best present for him.

I bet Hayley has lots of fun with her Grandma.

We are sure Jessie's Nana will be proud of this video when she looks at it.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day.

In preparation for Grandparents and Special Friends day the Preps at Wangaratta West Primary School proudly wrote, illustrated, read, recorded and displayed their individual stories about their grandparents or special friends.

We hope that you enjoy our videos of our work.

Ashley is no stranger to the video camera.

Ashton was a little nervous, and Mrs Krake was distracted during the video taping. What he wrote was, " My Nan spoils me."

Sam's Grandpa makes great paper aeroplanes.

Noah's Pa is a checkers player.

Abbey's Nana is also a checkers player.

A visit to the pond with Connor's Grandpa.

Anthony likes to go fishing.

Cassidy loves going for walks

Science

Good scientists look at something and ask themselves, "I wonder what would happen if....?" Next they make a prediction about what could happen. They do an experiment to check what really happens. Finally they share what they have now learnt.

We are looking at what changes are brought about through heating, cooling, and/or mixing.

We have made butter from cream and slime from cornflour and water.

Today we looked at dissolving things in water. We dissolved sugar in water, and found that it dissolved quicker and better in hot water than cold water.

In Prep we are becoming very good little scientists.

We knew that sand would not dissolve in cold water, but some of us thought it might dissolve in hot water.

We were quite surprised to discover that it did not dissolve at all!

Do keep asking us what other experiments we have been doing at school.

Speaking & Listening

We are trying to move away from the old "Show and Tell" where toys are brought in. We found that the language and listening skills were rather limited in these sessions. However when Will produced this wonderful chrysalis and shared all he knew about the life cycles of butterflies, the conversation and enthusiasm of the Preps was just brilliant! This is more like the active "Speaking & Listening" sessions that we are aiming for in Prep.

Thank you Will for bringing along such an interesting thing from nature to share with all the Grade.

Eating Time

Each and every one of us really looks forward to eating time. We usually eat our healthy sandwiches at the 11:00am break, as this is when we are most hungry, and it falls right in the middle of our most intense learning time.

The Prep teachers are very impressed with the wonderful healthy lunches that you provide for our little cherubs.

Eating time is not only a great social event, but a time when we practice good table manners.

Busy Little Fingers

What a very busy time we are having in Prep. We do hope that you love our colourful passageway as much as we do. Do take note of our increasing scissor skills. You will also appreaciate what great listening skills we are developing, as we carefully follow the sequenced instructions to successfully create our pictures.

Always remember that we just love it when you come into the classroom to admire all our work in there too.

Happy Mother's Day

To all you wonderful Mothers out there, the Preps of Wangaratta West wish you a very happy Mother's Day.

Our little folk have been busy making their Mother's Day cards. Do have a quick look at some of the photos that they have put into their cards.

Notice that the photos were carefully taken on the Preps' most favourite place in the yard, the Prep playground!
